TECHNOLOGY
We will be installing a gigabit fibre optic network in your area to bring your property up to speed with the help of government funding. Fibre to the property (FTTP) is the latest and most reliable way of bringing connectivity to your home, it will allow for up-to-date speeds and bring your home inline with the rest of the UK. We occasionally use gigabit radios to help those houses in the hardest to reach places to make sure we can bring as many people as possible online.
INSTALLATION
INFRASTRUCTURE
Once a new community network has been planned, members are pre-registered and vouchers have been requested and approved by the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, should you be eligible, we will then proceed to install the network equipment required to deliver fast broadband to your community. The terminology we use for this infrastructure is “backhaul”, upon completion of the backhaul we perform a full network test before commencing installation of the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) at your property.
CUSTOMER PREMISES EQUIPMENT (CPE) INSTALLATION
Our objective is to provide broadband to a single point inside your property with a fast internet connection accessible through a basic router, that we will provide as part of your package. To do this we will install a fibre cable to your property through an agreed route. We will then install an optical network terminator (ONT) at a mutually agreed location inside your property. This location will need to be close to a double power socket to power your router and ONT. From the ingress point (usually a hole in a wall or corner of a window) we can provide up to 10m of cable to get to a socket. Our aim is to make this location as convenient as possible within our budget.
what your installation fee covers
- Installation of a fibre patch lead to your property
- Optical network terminator (ONT) installed inside your property
- Up to 10m of internal cabling to bring your ONT and router to a double socket
- We provide a basic router to enable a WiFi connection
what your installation fee does not cover
- Installing more than 10 of internal cable
- Installing distribution cabling inside your property
- Reprogramming computers, digital TVs or radios
- Reconfiguring existing WiFi or network devices
- Rewiring fibre, ethernet or electrical circuits
- Getting WiFi from our termination point to other rooms in your property
- Reducing or removing trees or vegetation to bring fibre to your home
what you can do to fully enable your property
- If you require assistance distributing your new broadband connection around your home, we can offer you advice and have a range of ways to extend the WiFi coverage around your property.
- You have the option to employ us to help you. Additional works outside of the scope of a standard installation, as described above, are chargeable, but we can work with you to agree a price and get these works completed.
- Contact a local IT company to carry out the work. We can recommend some of the most talented local network engineers who may be able to assist.
Please Note – the location of your existing router/BT master socket may not be a suitable termination point for our broadband connection due to the location and distance from the ingress point of your house. You may have to redesign your internal networking system or extend the cable from our termination point.
